Jody Thurston Northwest Center for Children’s Literature
The NWCCL houses non-circulating preview copies of all children’s and young adult literature published in the past four years. During open hours (4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday through Thursday), or by appointment, the collection is available for preview and study to anyone—including parents, students, teachers, media specialists, librarians and others interested in providing quality literature to children and young adults. The Center is a joint initiative of the Concordia College of Education and the University Libraries. It is funded by the University and by special donors who believe in the importance of quality literature in the lives of children. For a calendar of local literacy events, click here.

IT’S TIME TO ANNOUNCE THE WINNERS
OF OUR BOOKS TO BE DONATED!
The NWCCL is very pleased to announce the winners of our books to be donated. We received many compelling letters from schools and organizations in need of books and our decision was a difficult one.
Please see below our recipients and a quote from
each of their letters:
1. Sitton Elementary School; Portland Public Schools
Diane Newton-Prior writes "What is 'new' in our collection has come from charitable donations and we have had NO budget for at least 10 years...I hope to fill the void for our students by making their library a place where they can read and dream and grow."
2. Madison High School; Portland Public Schools
Nancy Sullivan writes "The Madison School library serves approximately 950 students with a budget of $0...Our students are attracted to and engaged by new, high-quality literature which is difficult for us to provide."
3. Pilgrim Lutheran School; Beaverton, OR
George Bredehoft reports few funds for library books to match an expanding enrollment, though the desire for quality children's books remains a high priority.
Congratulations!
