About the Jody Thurston Northwest Center for Children's Literature
Mission
The Mission of the Jody Thurston Northwest Center for Children's Literature (NWCCL) is to support teaching, learning, and research by providing access to quality childrens and young adult literature and related resources.
Purposes
- To make available preview collections of childrens and young adult books from the most recent four (4) years of publishing;
- To provide information and consultation to librarians, educators, early childhood day care providers, students, parents, authors, booksellers and others in the Northwest;
- To bring together experts in the field of childrens and young adult literature to share their expertise and knowledge and inspire the love of literacy;
- To assist educators and others in integrating literature throughout their curricula and their professional practice;
- To promote the value and importance of a lifelong appreciation of reading;
- To provide permanent collections of distinguished contemporary, historic and retrospective books for children and young adults.
Location
The Center is currently located on the second floor of the Main Library at Concordia University in NE Portland (2811 NE Holman Street, Portland Oregon, 97211). We are a part of the new George R. Hours and appointments:
We are typically open Monday through Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., but Center hours vary depending on campus schedules and vacations. Please contact the Center Director for a current schedule or to make an appointment. jkoivisto@cu-portland.edu
